We Welcome You
If it feels like home when you walk in the door at The Lake Merritt, it is because of the energy and vision that we have dedicated to the property since we acquired it in 1987.
That home-like feeling has come from our love for this unique place, one of Oakland’s treasured, historic landmarks. You will notice our attention to detail, the elegance of our light-filled spaces and well-designed comforts. All have been created to make your living at The Lake Merritt a pleasure.
As third and fourth generation Oaklanders, we are hands-on owners and you will see us and our family members here a lot. We laughingly say that sometimes we are here so much that the lobby is like our living room and the Terrace Room Restaurant is our dining room.
The Lake Merritt came into being because we fell in love with the building and haven’t let go. We helped save it from a condo developer’s wrecking ball and our efforts have transformed it into one of the most beloved and special places in Oakland.
Location, Location, Location!
You’ve heard it before and it is another of the major reasons that people move to The Lake Merritt. Yes, it’s a great building, but there is more. Each apartment home comes with a view; often a spectacular one. The City is at your doorstep with transit and BART services, the Main Public Library and the renowned Oakland Museum, just steps away. Shopping is nearby too, and just across the street is one of the Bay Area’s stellar jewels: Lake Merritt. Recent lake improvements, funded by a voter-approved $198 million bond, are making our residents’ experience even better. Right out the door is a new four-acre waterfront park, lots of walking trails, bike paths, new landscaping, and an enhanced wildlife refuge, often home to over 100 species of migrating birds.
The Jewel on the Lake
When it first opened, the Lake Merritt Hotel was hailed as the most illustrious hotel in the City. This Mediterranean Art Deco building, designed by acclaimed architect William Weeks took advantage of the magnificent view. The hotel’s success was due in part to its very spacious suites. Initially built to be an apartment hotel, it boasts high ceilings, crown moldings, and extraordinarily large rooms with full kitchens. Under our direction, it has been completely renovated and restored.
Pull up a chair at our family table and settle down at home in this extraordinary building, staffed with wonderful people.
